Jim Robertson

Jim Robertson enrolled at CSULB in 1993, and because his older sister was a Sigma Pi Lil' Sis, it was safe to say where he would pledge.  It was a perfect match; Jim was competitive, loved sports, skiing, girls, and life.  He was a charismatic individual with an infectious personality that people, especially sorority girls, gravitated towards.  He was a person that you knew would go far in life. Upon graduating from CSULB, Jim was hired by a one of the local wireless telecommunications companies in corporate sales.  He took that experience and went on to an opportunity in Pharmaceutical sales...he was on top of the world.

All those that new Jim could probably tell you where they were when they heard about his death which was the result of an accident while Jim was on vacation. His funeral was a day that many bros will never forget. The number of people that attended was a testament to the friend he was to all of us.

For a number of years the Sigma Pi Alumni Golf Tournament was put on by bros in an effort to get us all together and raise a little money. As it started to fade, some of Jim's closest friends within the fraternity asked if the tournament could be re-named "The Jim Robertson Memorial/Sigma Pi Alumni Golf Tournament".  Since the name change there has been a resurgence in the tournament. It has gone from 40-50 golfers to 120 golfers.  It has gone from raising $2-3K to $12K per tournament.  100% of all money raised goes to the Jim Robertson Memorial Fund that is set up through the CSULB Foundation on campus.  All money goes to a scholarship fund that pays the tuition of CSULB Sigma Pi brothers in need. Each year 3 scholarships are handed out at the golf tournament by Jim Robertson's dad in memory of his son.  The recipients are actives that have good grades, are a positive influence in the community and have a need for financial help.

The recent success of the tournament has not gone unnoticed at Sigma Pi Headquarters.  Two years ago they flew out 2 individuals from National to attend the tournament. This past tournament was attended by the Grand Sage, and also had a write-up in The Emerald.

This tournament is about everything that our bro, Jim Robertson, stood for: spending quality time with those you care about.
